அகத்தி

Agati  grandiflora

 (N. O. Leguminosas)

Habit   :

Shrub, Branchlets, Pubencent.

Parts used:

Leaves, Flowers. Bark.

Constituent :

  Vitamin A,C&D.Leaves are rich in Calcium

Action:

Astringent, Laxative, Refrigerent, Digestive, Cooling&Antidote

Uses:

 Agati leaves are ‘Bitter, but full of Vitamin A. C & D along with calcium. Apart from cooling, the leaves are used in medicinal preparations. It is used in intes-tinal colic, Pellagra and also as laxative. It is also known for-its refrigerent and antidote effect. This is normally not consumed if the patient is on other medical therapy, as it may reduce the effect of the other medicine, because of its antitoxic property.

அகத்தி இலை கைப்பு சுவை உடையது. விட்டமின் A, D, C சத்துக்களையும் கால்சிய சத்தையும் கொண்டது. சமையலைத் தவிர கீரையும் பூவும் மருத்துகளுக்குப் பயனாகிறது. வயிற்றுப்புண், வாய் புண் முதலியவற்றிற்கு சுகம் தரும் கீரை இது. குளிர்ச்சியை உண்டாக்குவதால் இக்கீரை சீதளக்காரி (Refrigerent) என்றும். விஷத்தை முறிக்குமாதலால் Antidote என்றும், உடல் வெப்பத்தை அகற்றுவதால் வெப்பமகற்றி (Febrifuge) என்றும் இதனைக் கூறுவர்.

முற்றின கீரை மலமிளக்கியாகும். அச்சம், முனி, கரீரம் என்ற பெயர்களும் அகத்திக்கு உண்டு. இடுமருந்தின் குணத்தை அகத்திக் கீரை முறித்து விடுவது போல மற்ற மருந்துகளின் செயல்பாட்டினையும் கெடுத்து விடுவதால் மருந்துண்ணும் காலங்களில் இக்கீரையை பயன்படுத்தக் கூடாது. தவிர தினமும் சாப்பிட்டால் வாயுவையும் சோகையையும்,கரப்பான் நோயையும் உண்டாக்கும். அகத்திப் பூவின் இதழ்களைக் கொய்து அத்துடன் பாசிப்பயிறு சேர்த்துக் கூட்டாக செய்து இரண்டு வாரங்கள் சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால் இருதயம் தொடர்பான   நோய்கள்  அகன்று   இருதயம்   பலப்படும்.

மேகதாகத்திற்கு அகத்தி மரத்தின் பட்டை, வேர்ப்பட்டை இரண்டையும் எடுத்து வந்து இடித்து தண்ணீரில் கொதிக்க வைத்துப் பருகவேண்டும்.
