Habit :

Short stemmed terrestrial.

Parts used:

Ripe and unripe fruits and leaves.

Constituent:

Juice contains a protein digestive ferment. which acts equally well in acid or alkalline intestinal secrtions. Ash contains acids of sulphur and phosphorus, lime, magnesium, silica, iron, chlorides of potassium and sodium.

Action:

Fresh juice of the leaves are purgative anthelmintic and germicide. Juice of the ripe

fruit is anti-scorbutic, diuretic, diaphoretic, refrigerent and helps in the digestion of albuminous substances. Unripe fruit in large quantities is abhortifacient.

Uses:

The juice of the unripe fruit is an abortifacient in large quantities. It is used in the preparation of Jams, Jellies etc. It is used in the treatment of Jaundies, head achegiddiness and vomiting. The ash of the leaves with oil is applied for the skin allments

 இதன் செங்காய் கர்ப்பத்தை கலைக்குமென்பர். இதன் பழத்தைக் கொண்டு ஜாம், ஜெல்லி, குளிர்பானம் முதலியவைகள் தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. பித்தம், வாந்தி மயக்கம், வெட்டை,தலைவலி நீக்கும். அழகு தரும், அதிகம் உண்டால் தொண்டைக்கட்டும். இதன் தழையை சுட்டெரித்து சாம்பல்ல எண்ணெயில் குழப்பி சொறி சிரங்குக்கு மேற்பூச்சாக தடவலாம்.
