Plant contains a bitter alkaloid “Somniferin” having hypnotic property.

Action: 

Febrifuge, Diuretic, Alternative, Deobstriuent, Hypnotic sedative, Nutritive, Aphordisiac and Nervine tonic.

Uses:

It is a very important tuber used in siddha as well as in ayurvedic system of medicine. This is widely used in research in many foreign countires and it is found that many alkaloids and cartisone is present, which is useful in asthama.

The extract of thistuber however consumed acts as a nervant tonic. it improves the vigour and vitality. It is a strong aphrodisac. It is also used for asthma,arthritis, and in premature ageing process. This is very commonly available in herbal shops.

250 gms of dried and pulvarised tuber is mixed with 75 ml of pure honey and 75 ml of pure glove oil made a thick paste. If this thick paste is consumed every day, one teaspoon improves sexual vitality in men and develops the breast line in female. This takes care of tiredness and fatigue.

அமுக்கிரான் கிழக்கு, சித்தவைத்தியத்திலும், ஆயுர்வேத வைத்தியத்திலும் மிகுதியாக பயன்படும் ஒரு கிழங்காகும். இக்கிழங்கை தற்போது மேலை நாட்டு ஆய்வகங்களிலும் ஆய்வு செய்து இதில் 40க்கும் மேலான மருந்து சாரங்களும் (Alkaloids) ஆஸ்துமா, மூட்டு வாதத்திற்குப் பயன்படும் ஸ்டிராய்டுகளில் ஒன்றான கார்டிசோனும் இதில் உள்ளன. என்று கண்டுபிடித் துள்ளனர்.

இதன் சாரம் எவ்வகையில் உடலில் சேர்ந்தாலும், நரம்புகளுக்கு வலுவூட்டும். இந்திரியத்தின் தரத்தையும், அளவையும் முக சாந்தியையும் உடல் எடையையும் மிகச்செய்யும். இதன் சூரணம் உடல் உறவில் போக சக்தியை போதிய அளவில் உண்டுபண்ணும் தன்மை வாய்ந்தது. காசநோய், முடக்குவாத நோய்கள், அக்காலத்தில் வரும் கிழட்டுத்தனம் ஆகியவற்றை நீக்கும்.

நாட்டு மருந்துக் கடைகளில் கிடைக்கும் இதை வாங்கி நன்றாக உரலில் பொடித்து மெல்லிய துணியால் சலித்து சன்னமான பவுடராக 250 கிராம் சேகரித்துக் கொண்டு 75 மில்லி நல்லத் தேனுடன் 75 மில்லி நல்ல பசு நெய்யுடனும் இரண்டற கலந்து சிறிது சூடாக்கி லேகியம் போலாக்கி பாட்டிலில் வைத்துக் கொண்டு 1 டீஸ்பூன் சாப்பிடுவதால் இன ஹார்மோன்களின் வளர்ச்சியை அதிகப்படுத்துவதுடன் (பெண்களின் மார்பக வளர்ச்சியை அதிகப் படுத்தும்) உடல் பலவீனம் நரம்புத் தளர்ச்சி போன்ற உடற்குறைபாடுகளையும் அறவே களையலாம்.
