Constituents:

Mucilage, fixed fatty oil and Aucubin.

Action :

Seeds are Cooling. Demulcent, Mildly Astringent, Emollient. Laxative and Diuretic.

Uses :

Seeds are used in Catarrh, chronic dysentery, Intestinal fluxes, Diarrhoea, Blenorrhoea, and affections of the bladder, Urethra and kidneys. Also seeds are used in inflammatory and functional de-arrangements of digestive organs and febriel conditions.

In rheumatic and gouty infections in irritable surfaces of the skin, the crushed seeds moistered with water form a good, soothing and emollient poultice.

இதில் பல வகையுள்ளது. இசப்புக்கோல் (Plantago Ispagulla) சிகப்பு இசப்புக்கோல்  (Plantago amplexicaul). வெள்ளை இசப்புக் கோல் (Plantago ovata). கருப்பு இசப்புக் கோல் (Plantago psyllium) என்பனவாம்.

இதனுடைய விதையிலிருந்து இறக்கப்பட்டக் கஷாயம். சீதபேதி, இரத்தம் போதல். சிறுநீரகம், சிறு-பெருங்குடல் பகுதிகளில் காணப்படும் ரணம் வீக்கங்களுக்கு குணமளிக்கும் மூத்திர தாரை ரணத்திற்கும் குணமளிக்கும். பாம்புக்கடி விஷத்தை, வெள்ளை இசப்புக்கோல் முறிக்கும். மேலும் மலச்சிக்கலையும் நீக்கும்.

இசப்புக் கோல் விதையின் மேல் தோலிலிருந்து மலச்சிக்கலுக் கான பல மருந்துகள் தயாரிக்கின்றனர். மேலும் இதை வெளி நாடுகளுக்கு ஏற்றுமதி செய்கிறார்கள்.
