Action:

Powerful Aromatic, Stimulant, Carminative. Stomachic and Diuretic. These properties are due to the essential oil present in the seed.

Uses:

Cardamom is a precious spice of south India. There are many types in cardomom This is hot in taste so it increases salivary secretion. This is used as one of the ingredient in the drugs used for constipation, stomachic sweetness of the mouth, excessive thirst, headache with excessive sweating and phlegm. Oil is extracted from this. Cardamom oil apart from its aromatic uses in other drugs, it itself exhibits medicinal properties. This is widely used in day to day cooking as a flavouring agent.

ஏலம் தென்னிந்தியாவின் பூர்விக விளைபொருள்களில் ஒன்றாகும். வாழை, மஞ்சள், இஞ்சி, அரத்தை, ஏலம் முதலியன ஒரேக் குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவை. ஏலத்தில் பல வகைகள் உண்டு. இதில் சிற்றேலம் கார்ப்பு சுவையுடையது. இது சிறுநீர்ப் பெருக்கி, வாயில் நீர் ஊறுதல், வாயினிப்பு, தாகம், வேர்வையுடன் கூடிய தலை வலி, மிகுந்த வறட்சி, கபம் முதலானவற்றுக்கான மருந்துகளில் இது உபசரக்காக பயனாகிறது. இதிலிருந்து எண்ணெய் எடுக்கலாம். ஏல எண்ணெய் பல மருந்து சரக்குகளில் வாசனைப் பொருளாகப் பயன்படுவதுடன் தானே ஒரு மருந்தாகவும் செயல்படுகிறது. பொதுவாக சமையலில் இது ஒரு சம்பாரப் பொருளாகவே பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு வந்தது.
