Bark is Stimulant, Expectorant, Emmenagogue and Astringent. Root is Astringent and Aphrodisiac.
Uses:
The wood is brittle and coarse-grained and is used only as fuel. In paper making trade, it is readily pulped by the soda process, on account of the shortness of its fibers. This pulp is not easily bleachable. The wood-ash is rich in alkali. The kernal of fruit, though bitter, is used as edible. The leaves are used as cattle food. The green bitter and somewhat aromatic resin which oozes from the bark is said to posess medicinal properties. Bark is also used in the treatment of small pox.
