Action:

Root is a Tonic. Anti-periodic, Cholagogue, Alterative, Purgative, Abhortifacient and Parasiticide.

Uses:

This is an important herb which is widely exported from India. The tuber of this plant is used in treating skin ailments, leprosy, snake bite, scorpion sting, herpes etc., It aborts pregnancy. If consumed above the recommended quantity, it is poisonous but improves bile secretion and acts as an anthelmintic. Many contraseptive pills are manufactured from the seeds of this plant. The tuber along with Nigella sativa, (Black cummin), Veronia athelmintica, (Purple Ficebane) and Psoralia corylifolia (balueti seeds) is used to treat all types of skin ailments. This could be used as an antidote for snake bite when mixed and fried in curd. The tuber, made a paste with water and used in the hands, legs and naval region of pregnant woman, will help for a trouble free labour(delivary).

இதன் கிழங்கு சர்மவியாதிகள், கிரந்தி, குஷ்டம், பாம்புக் கடி, தேள்கடி ஆகியவற்றை குணப்படுத்தும். கர்ப்பத்தை கலைக்கும். இதை அதிக அளவில் உட்கொள்ள விஷமாகும். பித்தம் அதிகரிக்கும். மலக்கிருமிகளை நீக்கும்.

இதன் விதையிலிருந்து பல கர்ப்பத்தடை மருந்துகள் தயாரிக்கின்றனர். இதன் கிழங்கு, கருஞ்சீரகம், கார்போக அரிசி

இவைகளைச் சேர்த்தரைத்து சர்மநோய்கட்கு தடவ குணமாகும். இதனை மோர், உப்பில் வற்றல் செய்து தினம் சாப்பிட பாம்பு கடி விஷம் நீங்கும்.

இக்கிழங்கைப் பொடித்து நீர்விட்டரைத்துத் தொப்புள், உள்ளங்கை, உள்ளங்கால் இவ்விடங்களில் பூச பிள்ளை பேற்றைத் தீவிரமாக்கும்.
