Uses:

The plant is very bitter in taste and bears small yellow flowers. The stem and root is of medicinal use. This is commonly found as a climber on other trees, but the one which is found on the neem tree has more medicinal value. The leaves heated over fire is used externally for skin ulcers. The decoction of this plant cures periodic fever, fatigue, indi-gestion, rheumatism and herpes etc.

A type of tincture is extracted from this plant. This is used in disorders of spleen. This is also used in numbness of the feet, gonorrhoes etc. The decoction made out of its stem and dried ginger in the preparation of 4:1 and adminis tered twice daily. It is useful in diarrhoes, thirst and palpitation.

சீந்திற்கொடி அல்லது அமிர்தக்கொடி எனப்படும் மிகுந்த சிறப்புடையது. சிறு மஞ்சள் பூக்களையுடையது. இதன்தண்டுவேர் பல மருத்துவப் பயளையுடையது. பெருமரங்களில் படர்த் திருக்கும்.

 இதில் வேப்பாரத்தின் மேல் படர்ந்திருப்பதே

மருத்துவப் பண்புகளையுடையது. இது உடலுக்கு வலுலைத் தருவதுடன் தாது விருத்தி செய்யும்.

இவையை அனலில் வாட்டிப் புண்களின் மீது போட புண்கள் கரைந்து குணமடையும்.

இதன் முற்றிய கொடியே பயன் தரும், இதைக் கஷாயம் செய்து சாப்பிட முறை சுரம், பலவினம், அஜீரணம், வாததோய், கிரத்டு முதலிய நோய்கள் குணமடையும். இக்கொடியிலிருந்து ஓருவித சர்க்கரை எடுப்பர். இது வெண்மையாகவும், கசப்பாகவும் இருக்கும். இதை மண்ணீரல் வலி,வீக்கம், பலவீனம் முதலியவற்றிற்கு கொடுக்க குணமாகும். மேலும் இது கைகால் திமிர், மேகவெட்டை போன்றவற்றை விலக்கும். இக்கொடியை மற்ற கடைச்சரக்கு களுடன் சேர்த்து அதிசாரத்துடன் கூடிய சுரம், தாகம், இருதயப் படபடப்பு, பலவீனம் முதலிய நோய்களுக்குக் கொடுப்பதுண்டு. சிந்திற்கிழங்கினால் மேகம், குருதியழல் நோய், சுரம், பெருங் கழிச்சல், மாந்தம், கணம், சஞ்சு ஆகியவைப் போவதுடன் பசியும் அதிகரிக்கும். விடத்தைப் போக்கும். மேற்கண்ட நோய்களைப் போக்க இக்கிழங்கின் குடிநீருடன் தேன், நெய் சேர்த்து அருந்த வேண்டும்.

மேலும் இக்கொடியினால் கடுமையான பேதி, சீதபேதி, வெள்ளை நோய் நீங்கும். இதனை இயக்கியங்கள் ”

கொடி”பொற்சீந்தில்) என்றும் கூறுகின்றன.
