Constituents:

Fruit, when it is ripe, contain the largest amount contained the of oil. In addition to the oil frult or pericarp, the seeds also contain a certain proportion of oil.

Action: Alterative, Demulcent, Depurative, Emollient. Nutritive, Antipyretic and Refrigerant.

Uses:

The oil is expressed from the fruit of this tree and is used in medicines. It is laxative and antidote. It cures burns, If taken internally it acts as tonic and anthelmintic. This also gives relief from chronic diarrhoea, typhus fever, stomach ache and poisonous bites. This is used as an emollient in enemas to relieve constipation and stomach ache. Oil is used as an external application to cure boils, bruises, burns and other skin diseases.

“சைதூன்” மரத்தையே கரிவெட்டிமரம் என்பர். இதன் பழத்தினின்று எண்ணெய் வடிப்பர். இதனை சைதூன் எண்ணெய் என்பர். இந்த எண்ணெய் பல மருத்துவ குணங்களையுடையது. இனிப்புச்சுவையுடைய இது மலத்தை இளக்கும். அழற்சியைப் போக் கும். விஷத்தை முறிக்கும். சாந்தமாய் பேதியாகச் செய்யும். மேலுக்குப் பூச நமைச்சலை போக்கும். சுட்டப்புண், வெந்நீரால் வெந்த புண்களின் அழற்சியைப் போக்கும். இது உடம்பை போஷிக் கும.நாக்குப் பூச்சிகளைப் பேதியினால் வெளிப்படுத்தும்.சன்னி பாத சுரம், கீராணிக்கழிச்சம், வயிற்றுவலி, விஷக்கடி இவைகளை குண மாக்கும். மேலும் ஆசனத்தில் பீச்சிட வயிற்றுவலி, மலபந்தம். போவதுடன் திமிர்ப்பூச்சி வெளிவரும். இதை களிம்பாக செய்து பூச சொறி, சிரங்கு, தீப்புண், வெந்நீர்இரணம், சருமநோய் போன்வற்றைப் போக்கும்.
