Fruit, bark and dried seeds.
Constituents:
Tannin, and pectin.
Action:
Bark and unriped fruit have Astringent and Styptic properties.
Uses:
The juice of the fruit is used in treating gonorrhoea and venereal diseases. Fruit juice if applied relieves sprain and cures wounds. Oil extracted from the seed checks chronic dysentery and diarrhoea. An infusion is made out by soaking it in water, its gargle cures stomatitis, sore throat and hoarseness. Pericarp of the fruit and bark sre being astringent, checks bleeding in haemarrhoids.
தும்பி மரத்தின் கொட்டையினுள் இருக்கும் சாற்றை சத்தாக இறக்கி பிரமேகம் முதலிய நோய்களுக்குக் கொடுக்க குணமாகும். இதன் பழச்சாற்றை காயம் களுக்கு இவைகளுக்குப் பூசலாம். விதையின் எண்ணெயை சீதபேதி, கழிச்சல் இவைகளுக்குக் கொடுக்கமரம். பழம் ஊறிய தண்ணீரால் வாய்ப்புண் தொண்டைக் கம்மல் இவை களுக்கு வாய் கொப்பளிக்க குணமாகும். பழத்தின மேல் தோலும் பட்டையும் துவர்ப்புச் சுவையுடையது. இரத்தப்போக்கைக் கட்டுப் படுத்தும்.
