Action:

Seeds are Demulcent, Laxative, Aphrodisiac and Expectorant. Root and bark are Galactagogue and Emmenagogue.

Uses:

There are three types in this. They are herb, or

shrub or tree. The cotton is used in manufacturing dropses. Other parts of this plant exhibits medicinal properties. Leaves and buds (10gms) are made into a paste with 80ml. of cow’s milk if consumed cures oedema and ulcers. 25 gms of ripened leaf juice mixed with cow’s milk is an ideal prepara-tion for dysentery and piles. The paste of the leaves are used externally for boils. Leaves are made into a paste with mustard is used for scorpion sting to reduce the pain. The sharbat made out the flower checks dysentery. The paste of the flower is used on burns. Thorn apple (Datura alba) poison is checked with the help of this powder and tender fruit. Powdered seeds are easily digested and nutritious. The seed oil relieves the phlegm and acts as laxative. It improves health. Kernel of the seed cures cough and relieves chest con-jestion. The decoction of the root is diuretic, so it cures anuresis and obstruction in urinary path. The gum of the plant is diuretic. For chicken pox patients this could be used internally and externally also.

பருத்தி ஓர் பஞ்சுச் செடி. இதில் 2 இனங்களுண்டு. ஒன்று செடியாகப் படரும். மற்றொன்று சிறிது உயரமாக வளரும். இன்னொன்று மரமாக உயர்த்து வளரும். இதுதான் இலவமரம் என்று பெயர் பெறும். இதில், செம்பருத்தி, கொங்கிலவு, இலவு என சில இனங்களும் உண்டு.

இதன் பஞ்சு துணி, உடைகள் செய்வதற்குப் பயன்பட்டாலும் மற்ற பாகங்கள் வைத்தியத்திற்கு மிக உபயோகமாகும்.

பகுத்தியிலை மொக்கிரண்டைப் பாலிலரைத் துண்ண வருத்துகின்ற மேகமெல்லாம் மாறும்-பருத்த விரத்த பித்தத் தோடு விரணவிக் கம்போம் அரத்தவிதழ் மாதே! யறை”

இலை அல்லது மொக்கை ஒரு பலம் எடுத்து அரைத்து 30 மில்லி பசும்பாவில் கரைத்துக் குடித்தால் வெள்ளை தோயும், இரத்த அழல் நோயும், புண் வீக்கம் முதலியனவும் போகும். 25 கிராம் பகுத்தியிலைச் சாற்றைப் பசும்பாலில் கலந்து சீதக் கழிச்சல், மூலம் இவைகளுக்குக் கொடுக்கலாம்.

இலையை அரைத்துக் கட்டிகளுக்கு வைத்துக் கட்ட சீக்கிரம் பழுக்கும். கடுகுடன் அரைத்து தேள்கடி வாயில் பற்றிட வலி குறைந்து போகும். பூவை மணப்பாகு செய்துக் கொடுக்க கழிச்சல்கள் போகும். பூவையரைத்து தீக் கொப்புளம், சுடுநீர்க் கொப்புளம் இவைகளுக்குப் பற்றிட எரிச்சல்கள் அடங்கும். ஊமத்தை நஞ்சைக் குடித்தவர்களுக்கு இதன் பூவையும், பிஞ்சையும், குடிநீரிட்டுக் கொடுத்தால் நஞ்சு முறியும்.

பகுத்திக் கொட்டையிலிருந்து அரைத்து எடுக்கும் மாவு மிக்கச் சத்துள்ளதாகவும், எளிதில் ஜீரணிக்கக்கூடியதாகவும், உடம்பிற்கு புஷ்டியைக் கொடுக்கக்கூடியதாகவும் இருப்பது பருத்தியின் சிறப்பு அம்சமாகும்.

இதன் எண்ணெய் கபத்தைக் கண்டித்து மலத்தை இளக்கும். அன்றியும் தாது விருத்தி, இந்திரியக்கட்டு இலைகளுக்குச் சிறந்தது. விதைப்பருப்பு சூட்டிருமல், மார்ச்சளி இவைகளை நீக்கும்.

தன் வேர்க்கஷாயம் நீரைப் போக்கும் குணம் வாய்ந்ததால் நம் நாட்டு வைத்தியர்கள் நீரடைப்பு, கல்லடைப்புகளுக்கும் கொடுப்பார்கள்.

பருத்திச் செடியின் பிசின் நீரைப் பிரிக்கும். அம்மை மேலுக்கும் வைசூரிக்கு இதை உள்ளுக்குக் கொடுப்பதுண்டு. தடவலாம்.
