Leaves, roots and fruits.

Constituents:

It contains a green resin, starch, an organic acid and a bitter glucoside resembling salicin.

Action :

Aperient, Diuretic, Laxative, Febrifuge, Expectorant and Antirheumatic.

Uses:

This is commonly available shrub. Leaves, roots and fruits are of medicinal properties. Leaves are used in treating jaundice, phlegmatic disorders, rheumatism, thirstyness etc. It is an appetizer. Infusion of the leaves are used in above said diseases. Roasted leaves are used externally to cure piles. Fruit is used as vegetable. Dengue fever, dysen” tery, anuresis, diarrhoea are treated with this. It acts as diuretic.

The root of this plant along with root of caster oil plant root of witlow plant, pepper are added and mashed. Infusion made out of this mixture is used in treating fever due to indigestion. Powdered root mixed with dried ginger and sugar is used in treating inflammation of the liver. Powdered root and dried ginger powder are mixed in the water which is used to clean rice. This is given to cure ascites.

இதன் இலை காமாலை, திரிதோஷம், சிலேத்தும வாதம், கபதோஷம், வாததோல், தாக சுரம், ஆகியவைகளை நீக்கும். பசியை உண்டாக்கும். மேற்கூறிய நோய்களுக்கு இலையை குடி நீரிட்டுக்குடிக்கலாம். இலையை வதக்கி வைத்துக் கட்ட, தூண்டாகும் எரிச்சல் தணியும்.

காயை வற்றவிட்டும், கறியாகவும் சமைத்துண்டால், வாத சுரம், சீதக் கடுப்பு, அருசி, கழிச்சல் ஆயாசம் ஏற்படும். சிறுநீர் தடையில்லாமல் போகும். ஆகியவைகள் நீங்கும்.
