Benincasa hispida

Habit:

creeper

Parts used:

Leaves, fruits and seeds.

Constituents:

Fixed oil, starch, an alkaline cucurbitine, an acrid resin, proteids, myoxin, vitellin and sugar.

Action:

Cholagague, and Refrigerant Sedative, Antipyretic. Seeds are Restorative and Sedative.

Uses:

This is also used as vegetable in cooking. The pulp of this fruit without seeds is used as an external appli-cation for ulcers. This enhances the healing processes and eliminates the foul odour. Lehyam is also prepared from this. This is used in treating blood vomiting and phlegmatic dis-orders If cumin is added with the dried pulp with sugar candy and made a paste, this will cure the fatigue in summer due to excess heat.

சாம்பல் பூசணி,சமையலுக்கு பயன்படும் காய் வகையைச் சேர்ந்தது. உட்சதையை விதை நீக்கி வேகவைத்துப் பிசைந்து புண்களின் மீது வைத்துக்கட்ட துர்நாற்றம் நீங்கி, சதை வளர்ச்சி

உண்டாகும். உட்சதையை விதை நீக்கி வெய்யிலில் நன்றாகக் காய வைத்து, இடித்து பிற மருந்துகளுடன் சேர்த்துக் கொடுக்க, இரத்த வாந்தி, கோழை, இவற்றை நீக்கும். சதையை உலர்த்தி சீரகம் சேர்த்து இடித்து, சிறிது கற்கண்டுடன் உண்ண, வேனிற்கால வெப்பத்தாலுண்டாகும் அழற்சி தணியும்.
