The filaments contains maizenic acid, resin and other salts.

Action:

Nutritive, Laxative, Refrigerant and Stimulant.

Uses:

This is the superior variety of all. This is given to children and convalasing patients to regain strength. Sugar is made from this plant. This cures tuberculosis. The decoction made out of its filaments cures anuresis, dysuria etc. The ash of the spongy stalk along with salt will cure phlegm, whooping cough etc. This contain carbohydrates which retains the proteins. This is why it is added in poultry feeds which brightens the yellow yolk. Certain acids are also made from the ash of the stalk. This acid is used as catalyst in plastic manufacturing. This seeds are tasty and it could be given to patients also.

சோளம் வகைகளில் மக்காச்சோளம் மிகவும் சிறந்தது. இச்செடியிலிருந்து சர்க்கரை எடுப்பர். இதன் நொய்யை குழந்தை களுக்கும் நோயாளிகளுக்கும் கொடுக்க உடல் வலிமையடையும். இது ஷயரோகத்தைக் குணப்படுத்தும். இதன் சடையை கஷாய விட்டுக் கொடுக்க நீரடைப்பு, நீர்க்கருக்கு முதலான தோல்கள் குணப் படும். இதன் நட்டையை எரித்த சாம்பலுடன் உப்பு கலத்து கொடுக்க நெஞ்சுவலி, கக்குவான் இருமல் தீரும். இதில் புரதத்தை நிலை நிறுத்தும் கார்போஹைட்ரேட்டுகள் உள்ளன. இதன் காரண மாக கோழி தீவனங்களில் இதனை முட்டையின் மஞ்சள் கருவை 0-26

மஞ்சளாக்கும் பொருட்டு சேர்க்கின்றனர். சோளத்தை உதிர்த்து எடுத்தபின் இருக்கும் கதிரைஎரித்து ஒரு சில அமிலங்களை தயாரிக் கின்றனர். இந்த அமிலம் பிளாஸ்டி செய்யும் தொழியில் வினை யூக்கியாக செயல்படுகிறது. சிகப்பு நிற சோளமும் இதில் ஒரு வகையாகும். இச்சோளம் சுவையானது. இதையே சோளப்பொழி தயாரிக்கப் பயன்படுத்துவார்கள். நார்ச்சத்து மிகுந்து இருப்பதால் நீரிழிவு நோயாளிகளுக்கு இக்கஞ்சி சிறந்த உணவாகும்.
