Constituents:

Bracts or scales contain in a dried state, much albuminous and mucilaginous matter soluble in water but no alkaloid.

Action :

Male bracts are used as Narcotic. They have a property that intocxicates insects that rest upon them also Stimulant and Aphrodisiac.

Uses:

This is a tree. Flowers are bisexual. Only the male flowers exhibit medicinal properties. Seed and stem also used medicinally.

Powdered flowers are used in the medicinal preparations as aphrodisiac. This increases the number of sperms in the semen. This powder if taken along with milk induces good sleep. This is used as an ingredient in electuaries. Seeds are used in the powdered form.

மதனகாமியப்பூ, இது ஒருவகை மரத்தின் பூ. இப்பூவானது ஆண், பெண் என இருவகைப்படும். இவற்றுள் ஆண் வகைப் பூவே முதன்மையானது. இதன் பூ, விதை, தண்டு அனைத்தும் மருத்துவ குணமுடையது.

இதன் பூவை உலர்த்திப் பொடித்து வேறு மருந்துகளுடன் சேர்த்து காலை, மாலைகளில் உண்டுவர உடல் வன்மை பெற்று ஆண்மை உண்டாகும். மேலும் நீற்றுப் போன இந்திரியம் கட்டும். இதன் பொடியைப் பாலிலிட்டுக் காய்ச்சி, இரவில் படுக்கைக்குப் போகுமுன் சாப்பிட, நல்ல தூக்கம் உண்டாகும். இது லேகியங்கள் செய்யவும் உதவும். இதன் விதையானது சூரணஞ் செய்ய உதவும். இதன் விதையை உலர்த்தி, இடித்து மாவாக்கி அனைவரும் உண்பர்.
