Constituents:
The seeds contain fat. Seeds yield a pale yellow-concrete oll known as kokum oll or kokum butter. Fruit cortains cellulose, an extractive and an insoluable residue
Action:
Fruit is Cholagogue, Cooling. Demulcent, Emollient and Antiscorbutic. Bark is Astringent, so also are young leaves, oil is Emollient and Soothing.
Uses:
Seeds yield an oil known as kokum oil. This is used in making ointments. This checks mucous diarrhoea and dysentery. This cures ulcers, fissures of the lips, hands and chapped skin. This also reduces inflammation. Tender leaves are used in treating dysentery. Juice of the fruit checks dysentery, accompanied with fever.
