Constituents:

Embelic acid, a volatile and fixed oil. odouring matter, tannin, a resinoid body and an alkaloid called christembine. Crystalline compounds of emblic acid with soda, potash and ammonia are obtained..

Action:

is Purgative, : Fruits or berries (seeds) are Carminative, Anthelmintic, Stimulant, and Alterative. Pulp Anthelmintic, Astringent, Carminative, Antipyretic, Stomachic, Stimulant. and Anti-rheumatic. Fresh juice is Cooling, Diuretic and Laxative.

Uses:

Fruit is very aromatic and sweet which exhibits many medicinal properties. Dropsy, dyspepsia, obesity, gas problem, snake venom could be treated with this. The powder of the seed is used to expel the intestinal worms. Powder of the seed if given to children in a dose of 2 to 4 gm it cures flatulence and stomach ache. This cures rheumatism. If seed powder mixed with butter is used on the head it cures head ache. The paste of the seed is used externally to reduce the poison of scorpion sting and inflammation. This is used in all vermicidal medicines.

வாயுவிளங்கம் கொடியின் பழம் நறுமணமுடையது. சுவை யுடையது. இது பல மருத்துவப் பயன்களையுடையது. இதனால் பாண்டு, குன்மம், மிகுபரும நோய், வாயு, பாம்பு நஞ்சு, தலை, மூக்கு, வயிறு நோய்கள் முதலியவற்றை குணமாக்கும். விதையை பொடித்து உட்கொள்ள வயிற்றுப் புழுக்களும், எருவாய்ப் புழுக்களும் செத்து மடித்துடன் வெளியேறும். விதை பொடியை 2-4கிராம் அளவில் எடுத்து சிறுவர்களுக்குக் கொடுக்க, வயிற்றுப் பொருமல். செரியாமையால் காணும் வயிற்றுவலி நீங்கும். வாயு விளங்கம் வாதக்குற்றங்களை தன்னிலைப் படுத்துவதுடன் இரசம், வங்கம்

இவற்றைக் கட்டும். விதைப்பொடியை வெண்ணெயிற் குழைத்துத் தடவ தலைவலி நீங்கும். விதையை நீரில் அரைத்துப் பற்றிட தேள் கடி நஞ்சும், புடையும் நீங்கும். இது புழுக்களைப் போக்கும் எல்லா மருந்துகளிலும் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.
