Constituents:

Root contains three compounds:-campheride,  galangin and alpinin. Greeen rhizomes contain a volatile essential oil.

Action:

Aromatic, stimulant bitter, stomachic, carminative Deoderant and Disinfectant. Intravenous infections of small doses of infusion produce a sharp fall in blood pressure in experimental animals.

Uses:

It is a very important medicinal herb used in siddha as well as in ayurvedic system of medicine. The rhizomes are useful in rheumatism and catarhal affections. The drug is a popular remedy for many respiratory ailments. The powder of the root is mixed with tooth powder and is used against pyorrhea.

It is a good remedy for impotence and nervous debility. The powder of Alpinia galanga in honey lessened the paroxysms of cough in children suffering from whooping cough. This drug releives the distressing symptoms and also it reduces the body temperature.It has a pleasant odour and used in cough preparations and digestive mixtures.

நெடுங்காலமாக குடும்ப வைத்தியத்தில் இம்மூளிகையின் வேர் மருத்துவக் குணமுடையது. பயன்படும்அரத்தையில் சிற்றரத்தை (Alpinia Chinensis)பேரரத்தை (Alpinia galangs) என இருவகை இருப்பினும் பயன் ஏறத்தாழ ஒன்றுதான். இவ்வேர் பலவித சித்த மருத்துவ முறைகளில் சேர்ந்த நீடித்த நோய்களை வேரோடு நீக்கும் தன்மை பெற்றது. இதற்கு உள்நாட்டிலும் வெளிநாட்டிலும் நிறைய தேவை இருக்கிறது.துவரங்கொட்டை அளவு அரத்தையை வாயிலிட்டு சுவைக்க ஒருவித விறுவிறுப்பும் காரமும் உண்டாகும். இந்த உமிழ்நீரை உள்ளுக்கு விழுங்க, தீராத வறட்சியான இருமல், சீதள சம்பந்த நோய்கள், வாந்தி குமட்டல்யாவும் குணப்படும்.இவ்வேரின் பொடியை பற்பொடியில் கலந்து பல் தேய்ப்பின் பற்களில் காணும் நோய் ஆறும்.ஆய்வாளர்களும் மருத்துவர்களும் நுரையீரல் சனிச்சவ்வு பாதிப்பு, வாதநோய், குடல்வாய்முதலான நோய்களுக்கு அரத்தை சிறந்த மருந்தென்று கருதுகிறார்கள். மேலும் பல நூல்களில் அரத்தையை ஆண் தன்மையற்றவர்களுக்கும். நரம்பு தளர்ச்சியுள்ளவர்களுக்கும் சிறந்த ஒளடதமென அறுதியிட்டு சொல்லப்பட்டுள்ளது.
