Constituents:

  Red colouring matter sappan acid, gallic and tannic acids. Brastlin phallandrene dye is manufactured.

Action:

Wood is a powerful Astringent, Emmenagogur. Febrifuge, Tonic, Haemostatic, Antirheumatic and Antisyphilitic.

Uses:

The bark of this tree exhibits medicinal value. This checks chronic dysentery, diarrhoea and haemorrhoids, when used as decoction. The infusion of the powdered root bark is mixed with Cinnamon and the filtered water could be used as medicine to check dysentery and diarrhoea. The hot infusion stops the bleeding due to menorrhagia, uterous cancer and reduces pain.

சாயமரத்தின் பட்டை மருத்துவப் பயனுடையது. இதை நாட்பட்ட கழிச்சல், சுரம், சீதபேதி, குருதிப்பெருக்கு முதலிய நோய்களுக்குக் கொடுக்க குணம் தெரியும்.

சாயமரத்தின் வேர்ப்பட்டைத் தூளை நீரிலிட்டு ஊறப் போட்டு குடிநீர் செய்து கருவாப்பட்டை சேர்த்து குளிர்ந்த பிறகு வடிகட்டி, தினம் சாப்பிட சீதபேதி. சுரம் போன்ற நோய்கள் குணமாகும்.

இதன் சூடான குடிநீரை உட்கொள்ள பெரும்பாடு, சூதகப் புற்று இவைகளாலுண்டாகும் குருதிப் பெருக்கை அடக்கும். வலி குறையும்.
