Constituents:

Seeds contain a volatile essential aromatic oil.

Action:

 Seeds are Aperient, Diuretic, Alterative, Tonic, Demulcent, Aphrodisiac, Carminative, Galacta-gogue and Emmenagogue. Leaves are gently Stimulant and Diuretic.

Uses:

Seeds are useful in hiccup, dysentery, diarrhoea and skin diseases caused by impurity of blood. In the form of decoction of seeds or cold infusion, seeds are recommended for the dispersion of certain chronic enlargements of spleen etc. Emulsion made by soaking or boiling the seeds in water is given as a drink to relieve hiccup. Seeds boiled with milk are administered to cause abortion.

The tonic made by boiling the seeds in milk is used as galactogogue. This is useful also in seminal debelity and leucorrhoea. This plant is used in cases of Asthma, cough with much expectoration and in bleeding piles.

இளைத்த உடலுக்கு பலத்தை உண்டாக்கும்.ஆலி விதையை, ஆழிவிரை என்றும் சொல்வதுண்டு. இலையை பச்சடி செய்து சாப்பிட்டால் உடல் வலிமை பெறும். இது நீர்க்கட்டை உடைத்து நீரை வெளியேற்றும். ஆஸ்துமா, இருமல், மூலம் ஆகியவற்றைக் குணப்படுத்தும்.

இளம் தாய்மார்களுக்கு ஆளிவிதைகளை பாலிலிட்டு கொதிக்கவைத்து சிறிது சர்க்கரையுடன் கொடுக்க தாய்ப்பால் அதிகமாகச் சுரக்கும்.

ஆளி விதையினால் ஓக்காளம், அருசி, சோபை, வாதவலி. உடற்கடுப்பு, அஸ்திச் சூடு, நரம்புச் சூலை முதலியவைகள் நீங்கும்.

மேலும் இதன் வேர், பீனிசம், வாதவலி, பீஜவாயு நீக்கும். இதன் வேர், கிரந்தி, சீழ்பிடிப்பிற்கு உதவும்.
