Constituent:

 An aromatic volatile essentialoil.

Action: 

Carminative and Stimulant, Stomachic. Aphrodisiac.

Uses:

The aromatic seeds are used as a flavouring ingredient in curries; and medicinally as carminative, stimu-lant and stomachic. This has the similar properties of celery-or Omum. (Ptychotis a jowan).

துமத்தில் ஒரு சாதாரண ஓமத்தைப் பார்க்கிலும் காரம் அதிகமாய் இருக்கும். இது பசியைத் தூண்டுகிறது. ஓமத்தில் அத்தனைக் குணங்களும் உடையது

இது சிறப்பாய்,ஊழிபேதி, அசீரணபேடு, அளிற்றுப்பொருமல் வயிற்றுவலி, குன்மம் இவைகளைப் போக்குவதுடன் வறட்டிருமல், மேல்  மூச்சுடன் கூடிய இருமல், உள் அவயத்தின் குளிர்ச்சி ஆகியவை கட்கு உபயோகமாகும். ஈரல், மண்ணீரல்களின் பந்தங்களை நீக்கும். நீரைப் பிரிக்கும். கல்லடைப்பை நீக்கும். மேலும் ப சி தீபளத்தையும் போக சக்தியையுமுண்டாக்கும்.
