Seeds, oil and flowers.

Constituents:

Seeds contain 37 to. 44 percent fixed oil. Ash contains mineral salts.

Action:

Demulcent, Expectorant, Diuretic, Emolliente Astringent and the seeds are Aphrodisiac. Flowers are cordia.

Uses:

The infusion of the seeds is sweetened with sugar is given internally as a demulcent and expectorant drink in cold cough, bronchiam infections and irritations of the urinary organs bogorrhoea strangury, diarrhoea, dysentery and also used as injections to the vagina, bladder and rectum. The oil contains glycerine and linolic acid. Flower gives strength to the heart. The mixture of linseed oil cake and pungam oil is used as an external application in skin diseases.

இந்த விதையில் 37லிருந்து 40 சதவீதம் நிலைத்த எண்ணெய்’ இருக்கிறது .இந்த எண்ணெய் கிளிசரைல் என்கிற மூலக்கூறுடன் லினோலைக் ஆஸிடையும் கொண்டது. இதன் பூ இருதயத்திற்கு வலிமை தரும். சீதபேதி, இருமல், நீர்சுருக்கு, ஜலதோஷம், கல்லடைப்பு போன்ற வியாதிகளுக்கு இதன் விதைத் தூளையும் அதிமதுரத் தூளையும் சம எடைக் கலந்துகஷாயம் ஆக்கி அருந்துவது ஆயுர்வேத மருத்துவர் வழக்கம். எண்ணெய் எடுத்த பின்பு கிடைக்கும் விதை சக்கையை எரித்த சாம்பலை புங்கம் எண்ணெய் யுடன் கலந்து சொறி சிரங்குகளுக்கு மேற்பூச்சாகப் பயன்படுத்துவர்.
