Uses:

It is an aquatic flower plant flowering all the year, flowers deep red found commonly grown in tanks. Flowers are medicinally cardiac tonic, refrigerant, and diuretic, the seeds, demulcent and nutrient, the roots stomachics, demulcent and astringent. The best preparation of the flower, is the syrup. Root, stalk, leaf and flower are eaten as vegetables. A kind of flour is made from the under ground stem and roots.

The flowers are substituted for degitalis, the seeds for iceland moss tragacanth and pepsin, the roots for subnitrate of bismuth pepsin and galic acid.

இது தண்ணீரில் விளையும் ஒரு பூஞ்செடி. வருடந்தோறும் பூக்கும். இந்தப்பூ மருந்தில் பயன்படக்கூடியது இருதயத்திற்கு வலிவைத் தரும். உஷ்ணத்தைத் தைத் தணிக்கக்கூடியது. நீரைப் பிரிப்பதில் நெருஞ்சிலுக்கு இணையானது. இதனால் மூத்திரரோகம். சங்க வாதம், உஷ்ணத்தால் பிறந்த கண் நோய்கள், சிரநோய், இரத்த பித்தம், தாது நஷ்டம் போகும். இதன் விதைகள் அழற்சியைப் போக்கி குடலுக்கு வலிவை உண்டாக்கி வேர்க்கட்டைப் போக்கும். துவர்ப்பாகையால் பேதியை நிறுத்தும்.

இப்பூலினின்று சர்பத் காய்ச்சுவதுண்டு. இதன் கிழங்கு, தண்டு, இலை, பூ இவைகளை சமைத்துச் சாப்பிடலாம். இக்கிழங்கு பித்த பிரமேகத்தை விலக்கும். செம்பின் களிம்பைப் போக்கி அதை செந்தூரமாக்கும்,
