Constituents:

It Contains an essential oil and volatile oil. Volatile oil contains a mixture of ketone. carvone, a terpene and traces of carvacrol

Action :

Stomachic, Carminative, Stimulant, Antispas-modic and Aromatic.

Uses:

This is an aromatic seed commonly found in foreign countries. This is also found in India in extreme cold regions.

This is used to treat stomach-ache and other intestinal disorders. This is used in cooling by roasting and powdering it. This is commonly used as an aromatic ingredient in medi-cinal preparations. The oil extracted from this seed is used in bitter medicinal preparations to avoid nausea and vomiting.

சீமை சோம்பையே “கேக்குவிதை” என்றும் கூறுவர். இது அயல் நாட்டில் விளையும் ஒருவகை மணமுடைய விதையாகும். இந்தியாவில் குளிர்ச்சியான மலைப் பிரதேசங்களில் இது விளை விக்கப்படுகின்றது.

இதனால் வயிற்றுவலி, வயிற்றுப் பொருமல் முதலியவை குறையும். இதை வறுத்து தூள் செய்து கறி மசாலாவாகவும் உப யோகிப்பர். பொதுவாக இதை மருந்துப் பொருள்களுக்கு மணம் சேர்க்கவே பயன்படுத்துவார்கள். இதிலிருந்து வடிக்கப்படும் எண்ணெய் பல கைப்புச் சுவையுடைய மருந்துகளுக்கு மணமூட்டி யாகச் சேர்க்கப்படுகின்றது.
