Constituents:

Seeds and roots both of the bitter variety, found to contain the alkaloid which decomposes into colchiceine, tannic and gallic acids. starch and sugar, gum etc.

Action:

Alterative, Carminative, Demulcent, Laxative, Aperient and Aphrodisiac.

Uses:

The corm is odourless and possesses a bitter and acrid taste, Tuber of this plant is dirty white in colour. There are two varieties in this, one is sweet and the other bitter. The sweet variety is used in medicinal preparations. This cures phlegmatic diseases and rheumatic problems. The

disorder of the liver, spleen, inflammation are cured by this and gives strength. Gonorrhoes also could be treated with this. Phlom is excreted by inducing purging.

சுரிஞ்சான் பழுப்பு நிறக்கிழங்கை கொண்டிருக்கும் சிறுசெடி யாகும். தித்திப்பு கசப்பு சுவைகளையுடைய இருவகைகள் உள்ளன. இனிப்புச் சுலையுடைய கிழங்கே மருந்தாகப் பயன்படுகிறது. இது வாத ரோகம், கபரோகம் போக்கும். மண்ணீரல், கல்லீரல் நோய்கள், விக்கங்களை குணப்படுத்வதுடன் தாதுவை விருத்தி செய்யும், வெள்ளை நோயை குணப்படுத்தும். கபத்தை பேதி மூலமாய் வெளிப்படுத்தும்.
