Astringent, Tonic, Expectoraut and Stimulant. Gall is also a cholagogue.

Uses:

This is known as kadagusivangi”useful in many ways Fruit and flowers are used in medicinal preparations. The lactic secretion of the plant which is condensed is called kadukkaipuli. The flowers should be well cleaned before usage; The lactic secretion (milk) is useful as a general tonic for health. It is also used to increase bile secretion. For cough, piles ane fistula, it is an ideal medicinal preparation. This could be used as throat liozenger, to get relief from cough. This is also proved effective in leucoderma and other skin ulcers. For the cure of leucoderma it is used along with sugar and milk but non vegetarian food should be avoided while taking this medicine.

கர்க்கடகசிங்கி என்ற பெயருடைய இது பலவகைகளில் பயன்படுகிறது. இதன் காயும் பூவும் பயன்படுகிறது. பூச்சிகள் மரத்தைத் துளைக்க அதனின்று வழிகின்ற பால் கட்டுவதா லுண்டா வதற்குக் கடுக்காய்பூ என்று பெயர். இதையே கர்க்கடகசிங்கி என்றும் கூறுகின்றனர். பூலை உபயோகிக்குமுன் பூச்சிக் கூடுகளை நீக்க வேண்டும். மரத்தின் பாலினால் கிடைக்கும் கடுக்காய்ப்பூவில் பூச்சிகள் இருக்காது. இது தட்டையாகவும் ஓரங்களில் மலர் போன்றும் இருக்கும். உடலை உரமாக்குதல் செரிப்புண்டாக்குதல் கோழையகற்றுதல் வெப்பமுண்டாக்குதல், பித்தநீர் பெருக்குதல் ஆகிய குணங்கள் இதற்கு உண்டு.

மேலும் இது சீதளத்தால் உண்டாகும் இருமல், மூலம் இரத்தமூலம், அதிஉஷ்ணம் போன்றவற்றை நீக்கும். இதை வாயிலடக்கிக்கொண்டு இதன் சாரத்தை விழுங்க இருமல் அடக்கும். இதை காடியிட்டு அரைத்துப் பூச வெண்குட்டம் நீங்கும். புரை யோடிய விரணத்தையும், இரத்த மூயத்தையும் இதன் புகை குண மாகும். இதை தேனுடன் சாப்பிட தேகம் புஷ்டியாகும்.

இதனை சர்க்கரையுடன் கலந்து உட்கொண்டு பால் குடிக்க வெள்ளைப்போக்கை நிறுத்தும், பின்பு கோதுமை, நெய் சேர்த்துக் கொள்ளவேண்டும். இறைச்சியை தவிர்க்கவேண்டும்
