Action :

Plant is an Expectorant, Carminative and Diuretic. Seeds are Hydragogue. Fruit is Capestrol.

Uses:

This thorny plant is found in all common places. The root ash is used for medical preparations. This extract of the leaf along with oil is an external ointment for skin disorders. The fruit without seed is used as a vegetable, regular consumption of this will give relief in cough and stomach disorders. The decoction of root and pith is used to treat fever. This is also a general tonic for health. For burning mincturation the extract of the leaves along with some quantity of honey is an ideal remedy. This same preparation could be used for dog bites. The paste of the seed is also an applica-tion for oedema of the joints. This is good for the patients of tuberculosis, cough, respiratory infections, itching etc. This also helps to increase the body complexion.

கண்டங்கத்திரியின் வேரை உவர்த்திப் பொடித்து சூரணம் செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். இதை சாப்பிட்டு சுடுநீர் குடிக்க நீர்க்கோர்வை, இருமல், வாதக் கோளாறுகள் ஆகியவை குணமாகும்.

இதன் இலைச் சாற்றை, தேங்காயெண்ணெயோடு சேர்த்துக் காய்ச்சி கால் கைகளிலுள்ள வெடிப்புகளுக்குத் தடவி வர மாறி விடும். இதன் காயைத் தட்டி விதையைப் போக்கிவிட்டு குழம்பு, சாம்பார் செய்து சாப்பிடுகின்றனர். இதனால் உடல் அலுப்பும். இருமலும் சமனமாகி விடுகின்றன.

சதாரண கரமுள்ள போது கண்டங்கத்திரி வேரையும் சுக்கையும் சேர்த்துக் கஷாயம் வைத்து அருந்தி வருகின்றனர். இரனால் உடல் சோர்வும் தளர்ச்சியுங் கூட நீங்கிவிடும்.

உடலில் அதிக உஷ்ணம் ஏற்படும் போது சிறுநீர் இறங்காமல் வலி ஏற்படும். அச்சமயங்களில் கண்டங்கத்திரி இலைச் சாற்றோடு சம அளவு தேன் கலந்து ஒரு வேளை சாப்பிட சுகமாகும். இதையே நாய் கடிக்கும் கொடுக்கலாம். கை, கால், வீக்கங்களுக்கு இதன் விதையை நீரில் அரைத்துப்பற்றுப் போட குணமாகும்.

இது தச மூலங்களில் ஒன்றாகும். இதன் பழம் இருமல், சுவாசம். க்ஷயம். கபம், பல்லரனை, நமைச்சல் ஆகிய நோய்களை போக்கும். இதன் பழத்தை வேகவைத்து கடைந்து வடிகட்டி எண்ணெய் சேர்த்துக் காய்ச்சி வெண்குட்டத்தின் மீது பூசிவந்தால் வெண்மை மறைந்து தேக நிறம் உண்டாகும்.
