Constituents:

Euphorbon, resin, malate of calcium and gum.

Action:

Juice is Purgative and Expectorant. Root is Anti-spasmodic.

Uses:

This medicinal plant is bitter in taste. To treat eczema in children, this is an ideal medicinal plant. In california researchers are being done to find out weather petroleum products could be extracted from this plant. The extract of the leaf is also used to treat inflammation of the joints and oedema. The latex of this exhibits many medicinal properties. This latex could plant be used to cure ear ailments. This milky secretion also could be used as an external application in psoriasis. For rheu-matism, this milky secretion is mixed and boiled with oil and used as an external application. This milk is used to remove the warts, this could be used also for venereal diseases. If a little salt is added to this milky secretion it becomes an effective medicine for anaemia, ulcer, jaundice and herpes. It regulates the flow of urination.

கைப்புச் சுவையுடைய இந்த மூலிகை வெப்பத் தன்மை வாய்ந்தது. இதனுடைய இலைச் சாற்றை வரகு வைக்கோலுடன் வதக்கி, சாறு பிழிந்து குழந்தைகளுக்குக் கொடுத்தால் கரப்பான் வியாதி குணமாகும். குடல் அண்ட வீக்கங்களையும் கை, கால் கீல்களைப் பற்றிய நோய்களையும் நீக்கும்.

இதன் பால் பல மருத்துவ குணங்களை உடையது. காது சம்பந்தமான நோய்கள் ஒழிய இப்பாலை காதில் விடவும். செங் கரப்பான் மீது தொடர்ந்து தடவ நீங்கும். இப்பாலை எண்ணெய்யுடன் சேர்த்து காய்ச்சி வாதநோய்களுக்கு உபயோகிக்கலாம். தனிப்பாலை மருள்களுக்குத் தடவ விழும். வீக்கங்களுக்குத் தடவ குறையும். பால்நோய் அனைத்தும் அப்பாலால் பறக்கும்.

இதன் சாறுடன் சற்று உப்பு சேர்த்து காய்ச்சி சாப்பிட்டால் கக்குவான், சோகை, சூலை, காமாலை, குன்மம், கிரத்தி போன்ற நோய்கள் குணமாகும். மேலும் சிறுநீர் அடைப்பை நீக்கும். கலிபோர்னியா தாவர ஆராய்ச்சிக் கழகத்தில், இதன் பாலிலிருந்து பெட்ரோலியம் தயாரிக்கமுடியுமா என்று ஆராய்ச்சி செய்கின்றனர்.
