Constituents:

Roots contain resin, gum and salts of lime. Colouring matter consists of purpurin, manjistin and garancin alizarin and xanthine.

Action:

Plantis considered to be Emmenagogue, Astringent and Diuretic.

Uses:

This is a climber. The infusion of the root is used in promoting lochial discharge. It increases the haemoglobin contents of the blood. It cures phlegmatic and arthritic disorders. The paste of the root with honey is used to treat pimples.

This also could be used in mild skin ailments. The mixture of liquorice and this root are ground in vinegar and this paste is used externally as an analgesic application for fractures. The root is an antidote for snake venom and scorpion sting Root along with sandal wood is powdered and roasted in ghee. This could be used externally for burns. This is used as a colouring agent in oils. Red colour dye is prepared from this.

பாண்டி, இது ஒரு கொடி வகை. இவ்வேரைக் குடிநீர் செய்துக் கொடுக்க. சூதக அழுக்கை நீக்கும். குருதி நீர் முதலியவைகட்குச் செந்நிறத்தை ஊட்டும். கப வாத சுரம் நீக்கும். வேரை தேன்விட்ட ரைத்து, முகப்பரு முதலியவைகளுக்குப் பூச அது போகும். இதை அரைத்து வீக்கம், புண், புடை இவைகளுக்கும் பூசலாம். அதிமது ரத்துடன் இதைச் சேர்த்துக் காடி விட்டரைத்து, எலும்பு முறிவினா லுண்டான நோய்க்கும், வீக்கத்துக்கும் போடலாம். இதன் வேர் பாம்புக்கடி, தேள்கடி விஷத்தை முறித்துக் குணப்படுத்தும். மஞ்சிட்டி, சந்தனம், மருட்ழெங்கு சேர்த்தரைத்து அல்லது பொடித்து, நெய்யிலிட்டுக் காய்ச்சித் தீச்சுட்ட புண்மீது தடவலாம். இதை நிறத்திற்காகத் தைலங்களில் சேர்ப்பதுண்டு. இதிலிருந்து, சாயம் (சிவப்பு) தயாரிக்கலாம்.
