Constituents:

Bark contain a white crystalline alkaloid, resins an organic acid, mucilage and arh. Root yields an essential oil which is very pungent and offensive in odour. The husked seeds yield a clean almart colourless oil, named at Moringa oil. The gum is insoluble in water.

Action:

Fresh root is Acrid and Vesicant, Internally Stimulant, Diuretic and Antilithic, Gum is bland and Mucilaginous. Seeds are Acrid and Stimulant. Bark is Emmenagogur and Abortifacient. Flowers are Stimulant, Tenic and Diuretic. The plant is Cardiac, Circulatory Tonic and Antiseptic.

Uses:

Leaves of this tree gives relief in indigestion. internal heat, head ache, hysteria, giddiness and eye disorders. Flowers cures anorexia, eye disorders and diabetes. The flowers and tender fruits if taken along with food cures ricket fever, fever, anorexia and spermetorthoes.

Seeds, pericarp of the fruit if consumed regularly acts as aphrodisiac and tonic. Leaves and barks increase the flow of urine and improves the semen secretion. Root-bark is an excellent antidote for poisons. This also cures rheumatism. Gum is used in the medicines to treat excess urine flow, gleet and rheumatism. This is used externally in treating leprosy. If the fruit and leaves are taken along with food, it strengthens the body and improves the resistance of the body. Root is applied externally as poultice to reduce inflammatory swell-ings. Oil of the seed mixed with ground nut oil is an excellent application to relieve pain of gout and acute rheumatism. Gum is mixed with sesamum oil is used as an ear drops to cure otalgia. Gum is mixed in milk and used as poultice to check headache. Infusion of the roots gives relief in liver and spleen disorders. Juice of the root along with milk is used as diuretic, anthelmintic and digestive. Decoction of it checks hiccups, asthma, gout, lumbago, rheumatism, liver and spleen disorders. Young leaves are used as food. They check intes-tinal worm infections.

முருங்கை காடுகளில் தானாகவே வளருகின்றது. இதில் காட்டு முருங்கை, கொடி முருங்லா, தவசு முருங்கை எனப்பல வகைகளுண்டு.இதன் இலையினால் மிக்க மந்தம், உட்சூடு. தலைநோய். வெறிநோய், மூர்ச்சை. கண்ணோய் ஆகியவை நீங்கும்.இதன் பூவினால் சுவையின்மை நீங்கும். கண் குளிர்ச்சியும் உண்டாகும்; நீரிழிவு தணியும்இதன் பூப்பிஞ்சைச் சமைத்து தோலுடன் சாப்பிட்டால் எலும்புச்சுரம், எலும்பை உருக்குகின்ற வெப்பம், சுவையின்மை, வெண்ணீரின்மை (தாது நட்டம்) இவைகள் நீங்கும்.இதனுடைய விதை ஈர்க்கு, நீர்த்துப் போன வெண்ணீரை பிசின் போலாக்கும். உடல் வலுக்கும். இதன் இலையும், ஈர்க்கும் நீரைப் பெருக்கும். வயிறு கொட்டும். மேலும் ஆண்மையைத் தரும்.இதன் வேர்ப்பட்டை விஷத்தை முறிக்கும் தன்மையுடையது. வாதத்தை நீக்கும்.முருங்கைப் பிசின், மிகுதியாகப் போகும் சிறுநீரையும். மோரைப் போல ஒழுகுகின்ற வெண்ணீரையும், வளிநோய்களையும் நீக்கும். வெண்ணீரை இறுக்கி அழகை உண்டாக்கும். குஷ்டத்தை நீக்கும்.முருங்கைக்காய், முருங்கை இலை இவற்றை உணவாகவும். முருங்கை வேரை மருந்தாகவும் முறையுடன் உட்கொள்ள, அவை உடலிற்கு வன்மை தந்து எல்லா நோய்களையும் போக்கும்.
