Constituents:

Root contains three compounds:-campheride, galangin and alpinin. Green rhizomes contain a volatile essential oil.

Action:

Aromatic, stimulant bitter, stomachic, carminative Deoderant and Disinfectant. Intravenous infections of small doses of infusion produce a sharp fall in blood pressure in experimental animals.

Uses:

It is a very important medicinal herb used in siddha as well as in ayurvedic system of medicine. The rhizomes are useful in rheumatism and catarhal affections. The drug is a popular remedy for many respiratory ailments. The powder of the root is mixed with tooth powder.
