Habit:

Shrub or small tree.

Parts used :

Flower.

Constituents :

Flowers contain gossypol.

Action:

Refrigerant, Demulcent, Stimulant, Diuretic and Astringent.

Uses:

The flowers are red in colour. It cures fatigue. dysentery, diabetes, gonorrhoea and thirst. Leaves or tender fruit infusion gives relief in above said diseases. The decoction made out of cardamum, celery, bark of cinnamon along with tender fruit or leaves of this plant check diarrohoea. Petals of the flower soaked in breast milk and squeezed juice if taken internally it cures the eye diseases of the children. Infusion of the root cures chronic fever. The juice of the leaves (50 ml) if taken internally cures allergic manifestation of the insect bites.

பருத்தி வகையைச் சேர்ந்தது செம்பருத்தி. இம்மரத்தின் பூ செந்நிறமாக இருக்கும். இதனால் உடல் அழற்சி, குருதியழல் நோய், வயிற்றுக்கடுப்பு, நீரிழிவு, வெள்ளை, ஊழிக்கழிச்சல்கள், நீர் வேட்கை தீரும். இலையை அல்லது பிஞ்சுக் காயைக் குடிநீரிலிட்டு உள்ளுக்குக் கொடுக்க மேற்கண்ட நோய்கள் குணமாகும். இத்துடன் ஏலக்காய், ஓமம், கருவாப்பட்டை முதலியவை சேர்த்து கஷாயம் செய்து அருந்த கழிச்சல் நிற்கும்.

பூவின் இதழ்களை தாய்ப்பாலில் அல்லது பசுவின் பாலில் ஊறவைத்துப் பிழிந்து சாற்றை உள்ளுக்குக் கொடுக்க குழந்தை களின் கண்ணோய் தீரும். வேர்க்குடிநீர் நாள்பட்ட சுரநோய்களை குணப்படுத்தும்.

இதன் இலையை இடித்து கசக்கிப்பிழிந்து சாறுஎடுத்து 50மில்லி அளவு உள்ளுக்குச் சாப்பிட வண்டுக்கடியினால் உடல் முழுவதும் ஏற் படும் தடிப்புகள் நீங்கும். இதற்கு எட்டுநாள் சாப்பிட வேண்டும்.
