Uses:

This is one of the most useful food grain. It is best suited food for the people of tropical climate. Rice gruel mixed with lemon juice is an excellant remedy in cases of fevers, small pox, measles, gonorrhoea, other venereat disorders and inflammation of all kinds. Rice water alone is used as an enema in bowel affections. Paddy is used in the form of flakes. Alcoholic liquor and vinegar are prepared from rice by fermentation.

நெல் ஓர்வகை தானியம். இதன் அரிசியே உணவாகப் பயன்படு கிறது. உஷ்ண தேசத்திய மக்களுக்கு இது மிகவும் சிறந்த உணவா ரும்.பேதி,சுரம், வைசூரி, வயிற்றுக் கோளாறு, வெள்ளை முதலிய மேக நோய்களுக்கு இதன் கஞ்சியை கொடுக்கலாம். இதன் மாலை மஞ்சளுடன் சேர்த்து களியாக கிண்டி கட்டிகள், அடிபட்ட வீக்கங் களுக்குக் கட்ட குணமாகும். அம்மை நோய், அக்கினி விசர்ப்பி. வேர்க்குரு முதலிய சருமநோய்களுக்கு இதன் மாவை மேல்தூவலாம். தீச்சுட்டபுண், வெந்நீர்ப் புண் இவைகளுக்கும் தூவலாம். நெல்லை பொரியாகவும், அவலாகவும் பயன்படுத்துவர். நெல்லில் பலவகைகள் உண்டு, இவ்வரிசியினின்று காடி, சாராயம் முதலியவை இறக்கப் படுகின்றது.

இது கார்அரிசி, கருங்குருவை அரிசி, ஈர்க்குச் சம்பா, புழுகு சம்பா, கோரைச்சம்பா, குறுஞ்சம்பா, மிளகுச்சம்பா, சீரகச்சம்பா,

காடை சம்பா, கைவரைச் சம்பா எனப் பலவகைப்படும். இது பச்சை அரிசியாகவும், புழுங்கவைத்தும் பயன்படுத்தப்படுகிறது.
