Stem, dried root and root-bark.

Constituents:

Turpith resin contains turpethin.

Action:

Stimulant, Laxative, Acrid, Nauseasing Cathar-tic and Purgative.

Uses:

It is a cathartic and laxative. The ash colour root is aromatic and acrid in taste. The root bark is used in many medicinal preparations. This cures stomach disorders, diseases due to biliousness and disorders of the children. This is used as a healing agent in burns. It is also used as anthel-mintic. The root is light and porous in the centre. The ends are coated with exuded resin and innerside is white in colour. This is used in subdueing the mental patients.

வெள்ளை சிவதை வேருக்கு மலம் போக்கியென்றும் பெயர். சாம்பல்திறமுடையஇதன் வேர் சிறிது வாசனையுடனும், விறுவிறுப் புள்ளதாயிருக்கும். வேர்ப்பட்டை பல மருத்துவ குணங்களை யுடையது இது வயிற்றிலுண்டாகும் கேடுகள், பித்த வாதநோய்கள், சிறு பிள்ளைகளுக்குண்டாகும் சில நோய்கள் ஆகியவற்றைப் போக்கும். கைப்பும் துவர்ப்புங்களத்த இது தீப்புண்களை ஆற்றும். வயிற்றுப் புழுக்களை வெளியாக்கும். பேதியுண்டாக்கும். இது லேசா சுவும் நடுவில் துவாரமுள்ளதாகவும் இருபக்கங்களில் படித்திருக்கும் பிசினுடனிருக்கும். உட்புறம் வெண்மையாயிருக்கும். இதனை சூரணித்துக் கல்லுப்புடன் சாப்பிட பேதியாகும்.
