Parts used:

Bark, flowers and Constituent Bark contains a fair amount of tannin, rich in iron and catching.

Action:

The bark is powerfully astringent and uterine, sedative. It has a stimulating effect on the endometrium and the ovarian tissue.

Uses:

The bark is used in medicinal preparations. It is mainly used in gynecological disorders. The powdered bark along with the same quantity of Poonaikali seeds. (Mucuna pruriens) powder is used as an ideal medicine for Leucorrhea. The decoction is used as a uterine tonic. This corrects the menstrual cycle and relieves dysmenorrhea. The flower is used to check dysentery. Asoka Arishta and Asoka Ghrithams are prepared from the flower.

மாதவிடாயை ஒழுங்குபடுத்துவதில் இதன் பட்டை ஒரு முக்கிய பொருளாகும். இப்பட்டையை சன்னமாக தூளாக்கி இசுனுடன் சமபங்கு பூனைக்காலி வித்தின் இடித்த தூளையும் சேர்த்து வெள்ளை ஒழுக்குக்கு மருந்தாக கொடுக்கலாம். துரிபாசய நோய்களில் இதனை கஷாயமாக்கி அருந்த குணம் கிடைக்கும்.”

இதன் பூ ரத்தபேதி, பெரும்பாடு முதலியவற்றுக்கான மருந்து கஸில் பயன்படுகிறது. இதனின்று அசோகாரிஷ்டம்’, ‘அசோக க்ருதம் போன்ற மருந்துகள் தயாரிக்கப்படுகின்றன. அசோக மரப்பட்டை, மாதுளம்பழ ஓடு, மாதுள வேர்ப்பட்டை, இவை மூன்றையும் சமமமாக எடுத்து உலர்த்தி தூள் செய்து தினம்

ஒன்றுக்கு இரண்டு வேனை ஒரு சிட்டிகை வாயிலிட்டு வெந்நீர்;. குடித்துவர எல்லாவித கருப்பை கோளாறும் நீங்கும். மேலும், இதையே தொண்ணூறு அல்லது நூற்றி இருபது நாட்கள் சாப்பிட் டால் பெண் மலட்டுத்தன்மை நீங்கி பிள்ளைப்பேறு உண்டாகும் தன்மையை ஏற்படுத்தும்.
