Constituents:

Toxic, Nutmeg oil and an essential oil.

Action:

Stimulant, Carminative, Narcotic, Aphrodisiac, Tonic and Aromatic.

Uses:

This is an aromatic fruit. The other portion which forms the kernel of the fruit is yellowish and the seed is within this. Over the seed there is a coated aromatic veins known as ‘mace”. The fruit is effective in flatulence and colic. This is used as an ingredient in many medi cinal preparations. If mixed with alcohol and consumed, it fexpells  the intestinal gas, but it intoxicates. The oil of the ruit cures ulcers, wounds, paralysis and sprain etc., if it is used as an external application. If taken internally, it cures cough, rheumatism, wheezing, beadache, spermetorhoes etc. The oil could be given internally to check  diarrhoea and dysentery. Mixture of this with sandal, camphor, cardamons, cloves and plumbago root are powdered and if taken internally cures stomachache, cough, migrane, menorrhagia, dysmenorrhoea, theumatic pain etc.. The decoction of the fruit checks. cholera.  To refresh the eyes, the paste of this could be used at an external application around the eyes.

சாதிக்காய் ஓர் வாசனையுள்ளகாய். மேலே பழுப்புநிறமாயும், சதைப் பற்றுள்ளதாகவும்  உட்பக்கம் காயுமிருக்கும். இது வாயுத் தொல்லைகளைப் போக்கி சுறுசுறுப்பை கொடுக்கும். மேல் ஊறுகாய் போடப் பயன்படும். இதை சாதிப் பத்திரி என்பர்.இக்காய் வயிற்றுப் பொருமல், வயிற்றுவலி, அதிசார பேதி. இலைகளுக்கு கொடுக்க குணமுண்டாகும். இதை அனேசு பருந்து களுடன் சேர்ப்பார்கள், சாராயத்துடன் கவந்து அருந்த வாயுலைப் போச்சி மயக்கத்தைத் தரும். இதல் தைவ நல்லெண்ணெயைப் போல சிவந்திருக்கும். இது இரணம், புண், காயம், பாகவாவு, சுளுக்கு முதலியவைகளை குணப்படுத்தவும், சூலை வாதம் இவைகளுக்கு மேல்பூச்சாகவும், பல்வலிக்குப் போடவும் உதவுகிறது. மேலும் இதனை உட்கொள்ள இருமல், உஷ்ண வாதக் கிரகணி, இரைப்பு, தலை நோய், வாதம், அதிசாரம், விந்து நஷ்டம் முதலிய நோய்கள் குணமாகும்.இந்த எண்ணெயை தேபேதி, கழிச்சல். குன்மம் முதலியவைகளுக்கு உள்ளுக்குக் கொடுக்களாம்.

சாதிக்காயை பொடித்து ஆயித்து சூட்டுடன் பிழிய எண்ணெய் வடியும். இது வாதப் பிணி, போக்கும். மேலும் கழிச்சலும் நீங்கும். போன்றவற்றைப்

சாதிக்காய், சணல், சூடம், ஏலக்காய், கிராம்பு, சித்திரமூல வேர் இவைகளைப் பொடித்து உட்கொள்ள இருமல், வயிற்றுவலி, ற்றைத் தலைவலிபெரும்பாடுகவலி, வாதவலி முதலியவை திரும்.

இக்காயைகஷாயம் செய்து சாப்பிட வாந்தி பேதி நிற்கும். இதை அரைத்து கண்ணைச் சுற்றிப் பற்றிட கண் ஒளியடையும்.
