Action:

Carminative, Cooling. Aromatic, Stomachic and Astringent.

Uses:

Fresh root is used as a perfume. It is similiar to ginger, also could be used medicinally when fresh and dry.. They are useful in prurigo. Tubers rubbed with the leaf-juice of ceasalpinia bondue is given for worms. Rhizomes are used as an external application for bruises and skin diseases. It is also combined with other medicines and used for improving the quality of blood.

மாங்காய் போன்று மணம் வீசுவதால் இதனை மாங்காய் இஞ்சி என்று கூறுவர். இது சமையலில் வாசனை பொருளாகவும் பயன்படுகிறது. இதில் ஊறுகாய் தயாரிப்பார்கள். இஞ்சியைப் போன்றே மருத்துவகுணம் உடையது. இதனை கழற்சிக்காயுடன் இழைத்து வயிற்றுப்பூச்சிகளுக்குக் கொடுக்க உடன் நீங்கும்.

மேலும் இக்கிழங்கை அரைத்து நெடுநாள் ‘ரணங்களுக்கும். கொப்புளங்களுக்கும், மற்ற தோல் வியாதிகளுக்கும் தடவ அதிவிரைவில் குணமாகும்.
